A properly inflated air-camping-mattress can make your camping experience comfortable even for those that wouldn't normally go camping.
A good air-camping-mattress should give your back support and be easy to inflate. Let's face it, getting older really stinks. Remember when you could sleep anywhere? I do. But now-a-days if I sleep on the ground, I'll be taking ibuprofen for three days. Adjustable air mattresses are an excellent choice for people with back problems. They allow you to adjust the air levels without getting off the bed, however, they do require electricity and tend to be on the pricey side.

We have a basic air mattress that we take camping. We purchased a Coleman air pump that uses 4 "C" batteries to inflate it. We have tried the manual pumps (Highly not recommended unless you have a lot of energy and an hour to spare) and we have used electric pumps. Electric pumps only work when you have electricity.
We have gone through a few air mattresses over the years. My personal opinion is that as long as you've got small children (who tend to jump on the bed) stick with less expensive air mattresses. That way you aren't so angry when it springs a leak. Remember, anger equals stress and you're trying to reduce it, not increase it.

A typical air mattress price will range anywhere from $20-$200+. Sizes vary from twin, double, queen and king. I have also seen specially shaped mattresses that fit directly into the bed of your pickup truck. Cool huh? There are also raised, double decker air mattresses.
Some have heating abilities and automatic built-in pumps. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you'd find one with end tables and a mini fridge.
