camping-backpack style is for rugged hearty individuals and not for the weak at heart. Strapping on your 30lb pack and hiking many miles requires athletic stamina and a strong will.

However, many of the beauty's of the back country are only accessible to hikers. Breathtaking waterfalls, heart stopping views and abundant wildlife make the sore muscles all worth it.

Amateurs should educate themselves before venturing into the back country. If possible, hike and camp with an experienced camper. The last thing you want is to attract a bear into your camp. Special precautions must be taken with food such as suspending it 10 feet in the air between two trees. Your tent should be at least 100 feet away from your food and campfire.

There are so many other safety precautions to follow while camping in the back country.

Your hiking gear should be as lightweight as possible. And what you pack into your pack should be minimal. Planning meals for a back country camping trip takes creativity and careful consideration.
One thing to ask yourself is what will you do for clean drinking water? There are many water purification products that take regular mountain spring water and clean the gunk out so you don't develop a nasty case of Giardia. That's the last thing you want to happen when you are 7 miles in the woods and have brought a limited supply of toilet paper.
