Camping-for-kids doesn't have to be boring. There are many specialized items designed for children to enhance the camping experience.Camping-for-kids can be fun. But it can also be a headache if you go about it wrong. Remember, we are camping to help relieve our stress, not compound it.
Let's face it, kids have a lot of cool gadgets and electronics these days. The last thing they want is to be yanked away from the comforts of home and forced to rough it. Solution: take a few kid comforts with you. Laptops, Gameboys, and cell phones are all good to entertain your kids while you relax.
Portable DVD players work great at entertaining your little ones on the drive up to your favorite camping spot. Power inverters like the one pictured above are easy to use. You can use the inverter while camping too, just remember to periodically start your engine to recharge the vehicle battery. 
You could give your kids their own pint sized camping chair and camping flashlight to help them feel more at home in the woods. Encourage your children to help build the fire, in a safe manner, and you'll be surprised at how effective that is. Kids love fire. Just be sure to teach them safety. We've found that our kids hover around the campfire in the evening and are drawn to the small creek during the day. Mother nature does have a way of winning out in the end, but until she wins your children's heart, it helps you to relax easier if your kids are content to begin with.
