Learn how to make a camping-packing-list to reduce the stress of packing. List items that you will use specifically for this particular trip.

A camping-packing-list would include everything necessary for your individual camping trip. But where do you begin?

First of all, how many nights will you be camping? And, what are you going to eat? Plus, are you going to do any activities while camping? Ex: fishing, biking, hiking, four-wheeling, sports.

No matter how many nights you'll be gone, you'll only need one tent.

My method of packing begins with the food. Start off by making a menu for the three meals for each day. Write it all down on a paper, leaving room to add more words.

camping checklist

Once you have your menu figured out, work your way through each meal, each dish. Think your way through, what utensils and pans will you need to prepare each? Here's an example:

Dinner menu: Steak, Fried potatoes, Green salad, Dutch Oven Easy Cobbler.

Steak- Fire grill, long fork, Steaks, seasoning marinade, bowl to hold steak while marinating

Fried potatoes- 6 Potatoes, 1 onion, cast iron fry pan, metal spatula, salt, pepper, large knife, cutting board, peeler

Green Salad- ready prepared salad, dressing, tongs, bowl

Cobbler- Pie filling, white cake mix, 1 can 7-up, Dutch Oven, can opener, lg. spoon for serving, whip cream

Do the same for all of the meals. Some of your utensils and pans will be used for multiple meals. However, make sure that if two of your recipes include potatoes, you have enough to make both recipes. Also, make sure that you don't over book the same pan for the same meal.

Eating utensils, plates and cups are all part of your camping-packing-list. Count the number of meals you are eating and the number of people eating. Figure that number together for the number of paper plates, cups and plastic ware. If you are alright with doing dishes after each meal, then you only have to pack enough plates, cups, and metal utensils for each person.

Check out basic camp kitchen plans for a list of suggested items to keep in a camp kitchen tote. They can greatly reduce your packing by keeping these particular items packed and ready to go at all times.

Next, move onto the equipment. Tent, sleeping bag, mattress or padding, air pump, pillows, extra blankets(if needed), tarp, hammer, axe, camping flashlights, lantern, Coleman stove, charcoal, charcoal lighter fluid, charcoal chimney, sharp pocket knife, first aid kit, sunblock, medications, leather gloves, matches, garbage bags, dish soap, paper towels, hand sanitizer, etc.

Do you plan on doing any activities while camping? Fishing, hiking, biking, etc.? You'll need to think it through and plan accordingly and add it to your camping-packing-list. Sometimes we like to play a little baseball, so we take our mitts, bat and ball. You can always make bases out of anything. Frisbees and horseshoes are fun and easy to take. We like to take playing cards for the adults.

The whole idea is to simplify.
