A camping-portable-generator will prevent battery burnout when camping.

A camping-portable-generator is a good idea for people who can't live without power while camping. I, myself, love my laptop. At best, I've got two hours of battery life before it needs a charge again. The portable generator is part of our camping equipment and it doesn't run down our car battery.

Maybe you have children who love their dvd player, gameboy or cell phone. A power generator can be plugged into to recharge the batteries in many electronic devices.

Another option for power while camping is a power inverter that plugs into the vehicle cigarette lighter. These are great to use while driving. An inverter runs off of the juice of the car battery so make sure you don't run your battery down by using the inverter while the car is off. That bit of advice is coming from experience. We have had to jump our battery before because of an inverter.

Earlier this year when we were camping, a young boy came to our campsite asking if we had jumper cables. We figured that he must have run the battery down on his father's car and now he had to go find someone with cables because his father was too angry to do it. We couldn't help him because we didn't have any cables but it helped us realize we needed to add jumper cables to our packing list.

Portable Honda generators are durable and powerful but what size of generator or inverter do you need? That's a good question. Here is a basic run down.

200-400watts Cell Phone, Laptop, Fan, VCR

400/800watts Above + Computer, Printer, Drill

800/1700watts Above + Blender, Coffee Maker

2000/4000watts Above + Table Saw, Refrigerator

I can safely say that we have never taken a table saw camping. You get the idea of the type of items that require more wattage.

Power Inverters cost about $30 and up. Generators cost anywhere between $300-$5000. It just depends on what size and capacity you need. Don't forget, generators need extra fuel to operate.
