Remember the basics when choosing the right insulated-hiking-boot

Choosing the right insulated-hiking-boot for your individual needs shouldn't be overwhelming. Just remember that as long as your feet are happy, you'll be happy. The big factors here are comfort, warmth, dryness and sturdyness.

Columbia boot

Hiking in the fall or winter can be brutal for your feet. After all, your feet are the farthest away from your body's center of heat. It is important to keep your feet warm and dry in the harsh climate conditions.

A good insulated hiking boot will keep your feet warm even when wet. Thinsulate brand insulation absorbs some moisture and wicking liners help pull moisture off of your feet.

The above hiking boots are Hi-Tec brand.

When looking for a pair of good hiking boots, make sure they are tough and lightweight. They should fit your feet well will minimal movement to avoid blisters. Sometimes all the bells and whistles on expensive boots don't compare with simple basic leather hiking boots.

Oakley Boot If you plan to do some backpacking you'll definately want insulated hiking shoes or boots. Backpacking in to the back country leaves you miles away. The last thing you want is to develop blisters on your heal knowing that you still have to walk five or six miles.

Hiking boots that fit properly and wick moisture away will keep your feet happy.

Merrell Boot Here's a tip I read in a backcountry hiking guide. Always take a couple of plastic baggies that are big enough to fit a foot in. If you find yourself in a cold wet situation, you can remove your sock and put your foot into the baggie, then your sock, then your boot.

The baggie will trap your foot's body heat, allowing you to have warm feet. In dire situations, it could help you avoid frostbite.
